  Complimentary Massage and Meditation Practices

I feel like I can’t begin without telling you my story. There are a few reasons I want to share my story with you. I want you to know that I understand what you are going through as a caregiver. If you are a person living with ALS please know that you are not alone.

The first time I heard the word ALS was when my father was diagnosed. He was 78 years old. We figured out after my father was diagnosed that the “nerve disease” that my aunt had died of was actually ALS. My niece also passed from this horrific disease at 40 years of age. So we definitely have familial ALS.

ALS is so confusing to those who live with this disease and to those who don’t. It causes deep fear and anxiety and huge amounts of stress. I have been an educator of wellness and meditation for the last 25 years. Humans are under greater amounts of stress today than any time in history.  I know first-hand that lowering your stress level and getting control of your mind and thoughts can make huge differences in one’s life. It is scientifically researched that one can make a quantitative change in the human mind by actively committing to mindfulness practice.  Going through this as a caregiver, and a family member of a loved one living with this disease, is that I could not find a lot of research on the benefits of mindfulness and compassion-based practices. There needs to be more research conducted. But what I do know as a certified meditation teacher is that quality of life increases when you can learn to live in the present moment.  When you. can learn to make space for what is here.

Anyone who is going through a difficult time knows first- hand that the last place you want to be is in your body. However, being in your body is the first step to accepting what is here.

Here at The Body Therapy Center and School of Massage, we offer free meditation classes and free massages to those living with ALS. Caregivers receive a discounted rate.
